If you are new to digital marketing world, then you will 1st feel confused after hearing the name ‘traffic’. So what is this traffic means & how it is necessary to grow your business?
Traffic is the number of people who come to your website in a specific period of time.
Traffic is something which you can compare with the number of visitors come to your store daily. Suppose everyday 200 people come to your physical store, then you can say your offline store traffic is 200 per day.
Similarly, if everyday 500 people visit your website, then you can say that your online traffic is 500 per day.
In your physical store, you can accept limited number of traffics and have almost no control over them. Suppose in a particular day, 500 people visit your store, then 50 people purchase from you, but you lose 450 people and you don’t know whether they will come in future or not.
But in your website, you can get unlimited numbers of traffic per day and have many control over their behaviors. In the same above example , if 500 people visit your website & 50 people purchase from you, then still there are lots of ways to collect data from those 450 people (Hint: funnel) and later you can follow up them to bring back to your store.
That’s the main purpose of traffic. You do marketing works to bring traffic to your website, you get sales and some customers data, you build your customer list, later follow up and bring more repeat sales.
The number of traffic you receive to your website will influence how much products you sell online, how much products you sell offline, how much customers list you build and finally how much you earn. In sort, the secret to earning more money is to get more traffic to your website.

When you bring traffic to your website, you get more benefits just than money. When a customer visits your website, then they know more about your business, which helps in branding. If they love your business, then they will show your website to their friends & relatives; helping you get more traffics for free and you get more sales. This help you by spreading your business via word of mouth.

I have already told you that traffic is the number of people you get in your store. Your duty is to do marketing and generate traffics. You can divide your traffic in 3 ways.
Traffic you can control: This is almost paid way of getting traffic. You do advertisements in facebook, Instagram, YouTube etc. You do advertisement in offline ways like big banners, affiliates etc. Here you have complete control over how much money you spend and how much traffic you get. You spend more & you get more traffic.
Traffic you don’t control: This is mixture of free and paid way of getting traffic. You do social media marketing, group marketing, SEO, follow ups etc. But here you have almost no control over the number of traffic you get. The more work you do, the more such traffic you will get.
Traffic you own: This is the traffic you get from your customer list. Here the more customer list you build, the more regular high quality traffic you can get. The purpose of all traffic technique (both traffic you have control and have no control) is to increase you customers list, so that you can have your own traffic.
